Tailgate button won't open the boot

Recommended Posts

Hello all,
07 Roomster, press of the button on the tailgate won't release the boot open.

The fuse is ok.

Boot will open with the remote fob, indicating that the tailgate lock itself is ok.
Emergency/manual release works ok.
I tested the button, it will close the cirtuit whenever it's pressed, so the button is fully functional.
Cross-connecting the wires going to the button does nothing.
Re-connecting the wiring on the tailgate side didn't help.
There is no water or other damage caused by the rear wiper, e.g. wiring seems to be ok (no corrosion etc).
Any advice on what else I can check (before taking the car to Skoda)?
Thank you!

Indeed. There is a few broken wires in the shroud on the top of the tailgate, I'll patch them and report back :).

This was it - thank you for the tip.

3 split wires in the shroud.

- tailgate release button

- rear screen wiper

- rear screen heating.

I wonder how/if this can be prevented to avoid future cable issues.

The only way to long term fix it fully is to change the boot wiring loom.

We had to do that, same problem couldn't unlock boot, and in our case rear wiper would sweep whilst unlocking as broken wires must have been touching.

Just seems to be cable spec problem, not flexible enough where pass through the shroud where tailgate (and doors) are hinged, so break rather than flex
