Hi,

i drive a 2007octavia estate 1.9tdi pd

I was just looking under my engine cover and infront of the engine

 I noticed this pipe, which seems to be loosely inserted in the black plastic sphere, 

surely that can’t be normal? 
can somebody tell me what it is 

Nope that's perfectly normal. It's a vacuum reservoir.
