Potentially looking to buy my 5th vRS in the next few months, second hand. I am wanting an estate in case we buy a dog in the near future but I was wondering if a hatchback would fit the bill to broaden my choice of cars. 
 

When I say dog it would be German shepherd sized. 

A single German Shepherd will be fine, two it's a bit cosy. 

 

I used to have two flat coated retrievers and they could get in but it wasn't a comfortable experience for them, dad's estate made it very comfy for them.
