Help installing new Stereo

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've been creeping on this forum a while. I have a much loved 2012 1.2Tsi Mk2 Monte Carlo and have finally come to a point whereby I want to upgrade the whole sound system - starting with the stereo. I've bought a double din sony for £350 (recommended by store - can provide full model name) and am planning to install it and a sub initially.
I've watched countless videos and feel confident about how to go about changing the stereo, however in store they told me I will need to connect the red cable to a fuse in the fuse box. I haven't seen this in any of the videos or literature that i've read and am completely lost as to what/how I am to do about this.

I've searched this forum but couldn't find anything to provide clarity.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Ok I think i've figured it.

The stereo is 15amp. So I should buy a 15amp fuse tap and put it into the ignition fuse on the fusebox, then wire this up into the stereo ignition lead - that should solve my problems?

For any stumbling across this in future... I successfully installed the new stereo using a fuse tap off an empty slot in the fuseboard (START-STOP (Slot 1)) to provide power to the red cable.

Next, I aim to install a sub. I know smaller units can run from the fuseboard. I am going to buy a bigger unit and hope that I dont have to wire directly to the battery.

If anyone knows - please let me know. Otherwise I will post my findings.
