Tailgate not opening

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, I have  a 2009 plate Fabia. A strange thing has started to happen, if I try one open the boot with the key fob I can hear a click but the boot stays locked. The strange part is, if having done this, I then open the rear passenger door then I can open the boot! This has happened several times so to get the dog out of the boot I have to open the rear drivers door first. Are they linked mechanically or electrically?

thanks Dace

The language of posts should be international english, or, if in your native tongue, accompained with an english translation. We appreicate not all things are easily explained. I'd struggle to describe what my problem/answer is in greek for example.

Have a look at the wires in that doors bellows as usually front door looms snap or fracture. You might find a dodgy wire that needs fixing and it may contact some of the time. TBH, I’d check all four doors anyway and check real close as it’s hard to spot if it’s only fractured and not snapped.

Also, if the boot pop fails completely, there is a small hole in the rear plastic trim which from inside the car, you can pop a screwdriver or similar, and lever the latch mechanism, to open the tailgate. This is a sort of emergency backup

Hi, interesting, I had a front passenger window that failed to wind down. Following a lead from this forum I found a separated wire inside the passenger door rubber boot. I rejoined it ( dogs breakfast!) but now it works.

I’ll take a look,

thanks

Dace
