Legislation is getting much stricter in my country when it comes to tuning and remapping. I feel like many tuning companies might go out of business soon and drivers with performance mods might face severe fines. I was looking for a way to get slightly more power to my 2018 Octavia with 1.6 TDI 85kW engine.

What should I expect if I get the most basic Racechip box for my car? It promises +20hp and +37nm and I am happy even if I get +10hp and +20nm for 169€. My biggest worry is that I will somehow damage my engine. I do services very often. Oil and oil filter every 15000 kilometers and all the other filters every 30000 kilometers. Winters here are also cold and I don't know how Racechip will handle it.

I know remapping is much better option for the car. However, racechip costs much less, doesn't leave a trace and I can get my car stock in minutes.

I know nothing about the Racechip, and you haven't provided a link to the product, so I'm floundering about in the dark here.

That said, I suspect you believe the Racechip is a mistake, but you're looking about for some reassurance that the Racechip is actually okay, and there's no need to spend the extra money on a remap. My advice is as follows:-

If you're short of money, don't modify your car.

If you're not short of money, modify it properly.

@Lare111   Do we have to guess where your country is?

As to removing and leaving not trace, who is it you want to have no trace?

You need to declare it on your insurance do you not.

If there is a fault at the roadside or an accident you are not removing a tuning box before the car is recovered are you?

Just get the car remapped if you want to improve performance.

I would avoid a tuning box and put the money in other places.  If you country allows, maybe spend it on lowering springs or even some upgraded shocks.  Being able to go round a corner faster is much more fun than accelerating harder.  The you have brakes to upgrade.  Maybe some braided lines and better pads.
