Break Pads Clips not big enough rear Axle....

Featured Replies

Hello all

Yesterday i was changing my break pads and the clips that you slide onto the caliper did not fit. They are much shorter than the older ones. I've ordered the breaks from auto doc using my reg number and by the code that skoda dealer is using.

Did I made a mistake ? or they put the wrong clips in the bag?

If i made a mistake what shall i look out for so it can fit nicely? please help

2 first pictures are the clips that were not the same. please advice.

Here are the photos of break discs and pads i bought for the rear axle.

The clips don't look right. There should be a 28mm gap as shown in the below diagram from ATE.

Textar also show a 28mm (27.8mm) gap.

These Hella ones also look like they have a similar gap.

However, these Bosch and Ferodo ones look like they have a narrower gap.

These are two of the photos for the TRW GDB1622 shown on autodoc

The clips for the TRW GDB1622DTE (different from TRW GDB1622) look narrower.

Yeah the clips were together with the break pads, so have they made a mistake ? How can I know for future orders the clips will be the right size.

Take a look at the below ebay link. There are many photos of the clips from various sellers. The clips look narrow like yours.

Ah yeah I see so that is just what they provide with these breaks it seems. Will have to get a different brand next time.

EBC brake pads might not use anti-squeal shims.

EBC DP1518 are listed to replace 1K0698451K

I just changed the original rear pads on my 2015 1.4Tsi. There were no shims there, assume it came like that from the factory. There were some shims that came with the new pads, along with new loctite bolts. There was no way the new pads were going to fit with the shims in place, and I spent some time cleaning and wire brushing...

Many aftermarket brake pads are sold to replace a huge number of OEM part numbers on a huge range of cars...so it appears that the included shims might not always be relevant to your particular car.

This helps understand the OP post, ie. the included shims probably weren't suitable for his car. The only reason the shims are there is to stop squealing...and if you don't get squealing, there's no need for the shims.

Maybe the OP just needed to reuse his original shims, or just use the new rear brake pads without shims if he didn't get squealing.
