Sunroof creaks

Featured Replies

Hi, calling all hatch owners with a sunroof......do you get creaking from the sunroof / headlining when the body flexes?  My dealer is suggesting that some creaking is to be expected with a sunroof.  Has anyone had success with their dealer fixing the issue?

Hi NickG93, Estate version, we have a pan roof type, car will be 4 years old this September, only covered 21,000 mls sunroof not serviced as yet no creaking that I can tell.

Noticed it from day 1 of ownership, a little trawl through internet suggested it was the framing around the pan roof/headlining and suggested unclipping the back edge of frame to relieve the tension. It worked buy my ocd with car couldn't leave the lining loose as it was. The lining has a metal frame and yes it was more noticeable at slow speed if the chassis was twisting a bit. 3 years on don't even notice it now.

I fixed my creaking sunroof with some silicon grease around the rubber edges. Just a little bit now creaking completely gone.

@NickG93 Utter tosh! My Superb hatchback sunroof creaked occasionally and for good measure cracked the sunroof surround, which was replaced under warranty. I used rubber cleaner etc but it still creaked.  It's probably the roof lining and there are a few suggested fixes on this site if you do a search. I think the fixes included inserting padding or unclipping the roof lining from a retaining stud. For reference I now have a Karoq Sportline with a full length sunroof, which does not creak no matter how rough the road surface or exterior temperature.
