SOS Problem, third time.

Featured Replies

Sorry to drag this up again. Having already had my car in for extended periods twice for the SOS failure problem, and having two different aerials fitted, I used the car (after an ~4week break) on Tuesday. Did a total of 45 miles and had the alarm going off 4 times, and once more yesterday. Went straight to the dealers who can't give me a diagnostic appointment until some ime in July. As I need the car to go to Europe in just under 4 weeks that could mean the alarm every time the car is restarted and no working SOS system whilst travelling on motorways. The dealers suggested trying another dealer. I called them and explained the issue and they said they would call back, but nothing so far. Don't know whether they forgot, or whether they are not interested.

Not feeling happy with Skoda and my local agents. Earliest booking I can get is 6th July, but the car will be on the continent in that time. So not in until 22nd July. BUT they are asking £24 for a loan car. I can do without one for a day for diagnostics (plus the warning of a diagnostic fee if they don't find anything) but on the last 2 occasions they had the car for 5 days, and I don't see why I should pay for a loan car whilst the car is in for warranty work.

Bought my first edition 2020 Octavia in August last year. Vantage in Morecambe had to be well aware of the problems with virtually all its computer systems (SOS, infotainment etc). No sign of anything being sorted Skoda jokes are back!

Did they do the firmware update as well? Mine went in for the same thing, had an aerial replacement plus firmware update.  Bit early to jump up and down with joy yet as only had it done last week but so far so good.

Sorry to have taken so long to reply. I managed to get it booked in at a different agent for diagnosis. A drive of approx 35 miles and 4 alarms on the way. They got in touch with Technical who wanted to replace some paers but as we were off in less than 7 days for a 3 and a half week continental trip I had to book it in for when I got back. Car didn't alarm on the way home, and in fact, managed to get from Dorset to Autria without alarms for over 2 weeks and a lot of miles.I was considering cancelling the work, but then the car spoiled it and alarmed 4 times in the next week or so. Si it will be going in in early August.

I managed to resolve this myself on my 2020 Skoda Karoq. I appreciate that this post is a couple of years ago, but I did some extensive research to try and find a solution, so I thought I'd share my answer.

Apparently, when the backup OCU battery health is crap, the SOS system comes up with an error, which doesn't affect your driving but knocks the signal out for your satnav, interferes with the microphone on calls, and has a very irritating warning light. Mine reset when I left the car off for a while, or held the SOS button for 20 seconds and made an emergency call, and cancelled it again, but it always came back.

I found this was a possible issue and found the OCU backup battery here: Volkswagen / Audi / Skoda Battery For Emergency Supply 3G0915089A - LLLParts I called a local dealer to confirm it was the right fit for my model, and it was, then just bought it from that site as it was about £45 cheaper than the dealer.

Then you have to take out the unit, which for me was behind the headlights control. I removed the panel under the steering wheel with a hex screwdriver, and used a 10mm socket wrench to take off the Gateway Unit (part number, which I could see when I took the panel off was 3Q0 907 530 AG). Then the OCU was stacked on top of that (part number 5WA 035 284 B). Swapped the battery in the OCU with the one I bought, popped everything back in, and never had the issue come up again.

Note! Without stating the obvious, remove the battery negative before doing this, don't want to blow a fuse.

There are several people on this or similar threads with various solutions. However, no-one mentioned what seemed to be my issue, which was solved (fingers crossed, its been ok so far) by replacing what was considered to be a faulty cable running the lenght of the car, which had to be specially fabricated. Only took 8 visits to the agent!
