Boot won’t open with fob or boot button.

Featured Replies

Hiya folks,

Went to open my boot this morning and

nothing,no sounds nowt!

no im presuming it’s the twin door broken wires mission.

i had no reverse/or rear fog lights pop up the other day which I was going to change today but then this…

my question is how can I open the boot to attempt the repair as in the guide on the forum?

is there an emergency pull/lever?

I presume scanning the car won’t bring any faults for the wires too?

Thanks in advance.

There is (should be) an owners manual in your car, which describes (among many other things) also this procedure.

Advice: Read that manual and learn many functions of your car you did not know yet.

there is a fault in the central locking, you can open the boot lid as follows:
– Fold the backrest of the rear seat forwards ⇒ page 76.
– Guide the key into the slot in the trim panel as far as the stop ⇒ fig. 23.
– You can unlock the lid by moving it in the direction of the arrow.
– Open the boot lid/luggage compartment door.

Just been out to the car..not been moved for 2 days.. tried remote and the boot opened.

strange.

wonder if it’s not the wires and the micro switch

I have the same problem, boot wouldn't open and no near side reversing light.

I have read various forums and I believe it is a wiring issue.

I found by wiggling the corrugated flexible rubber tube that goes between the main body and the rear hatchback by the top left hinge, it all started working again!

I took this rubber off each end and slid it back but could not see any broken wires?

It is weird.

Thank you so much.

yes I believe that is the issue with the wires it’s a common fault on the superb!

it’s just when I can get it open I will try have a go and fix it, the guide on here looks so in depth which is great.

so how did you open the boot in the end?

as I can’t get to the plastic shroud you see.

thanks

Have to drop the back seats and crawl in.

On the door just left of centre is a slot. Put a screwdriver in and slide upwards to release the catch. Left as you look at it from inside.

The slot is not easily visible. It's like a knife cut in the fabric liner.

Using a torch helps locate it. It's actually wider than the slit in the fabric.

I think it shows it in owner's handbook.

My hatchback release button was still operational, causing the brake lights to flash, though middle boot release is the one that didn't work.

Have to get someone else to do the hatchback release then you flick inside.  It relocks after approx 10 seconds not giving enough time to crawl in.

Good luck 🤞

Hi and thank you peter.

yes when I looked in the boot you can’t see the cut out, I guess it’s there if you look hard enough.

how the good news you say is that the boot locks itself so I could still use the boot if I need to.

so can I ask… what did you do to you’re wiring/boot in the end?

cheers

steve

I peeled back the corrugated rubber tube but couldn't see any breaks, etc.

But the action of wiggling the wires made it work again.

Apparently the wiring loom connectors are just in the roof lining, so maybe it was dry connections that needed tweaking.

Hint: Operate boot release without closing boot, to see if it works.

Drop back seats and climb into the boot. There is a small hole inline with the lock. Insert a screwdriver and flick upwards.

Just had mine repaired. There were breaks in 2 wires.

1 for boot release and 1 for reversing light.

The breaks in the wires were by the hinging system for the single boot lid opening. The brake lights still flashed when operating the hatchback release.

Emergency boot opening is detailed in the owners handbook.

So I had a Quick Look…

got into the boot via the back seats dead easy!

so thanks for the info.

so small boot opened fine..closed it and it works via the remote now.

reversing lights and fog lights all working.

very strange.. I’ve had a go to on the second part of the boot.  Removed both bolts and now I’m trying to wiggle the black hook out of each side.. no luck yet 😞

Who repaired it and may I ask how much the repair?

Mine did the same. Obvious now, wires were making occasional contact.

To open hatchback, you need an extra pair of hands.

Person outside operates the hatchback release button, brake lights flashing, then open from inside.

Hatchback section locks itself after about 10 seconds, so not really enough time to do it by yourself.

Ahhhh I see…I did remove 2 metal pins the gas’s sections moves up a little bit but I still can’t get the black hooks out 😞
