Busted cruise control

Featured Replies

sods law I suppose - do most of my miles on rural roads and have little use for the cruise control. had to go to Abredeen in the middle of the week - mostly motorway and dual carrigway and the cruise packed in!!!!!!!

worked when I first set it but would come on again after the first touch of brakes. No amount of switching on of off made any difference.

Tried to trace a fuse but doesn't mention it in the manual.

Anyone know of anything obvious before a make a trip to the stealler?

Probably a broken switch.

Your brake lights aren't stuck on are they?

When mine had this problem it was the switch on the clutch pedal but it was only intermittent

thanks guys - hasn't started tp work again after 3 or 4 days now and brake lights are ok - trip to the delers then - oh well good excuse to organise a play in a vRS!!:D

My CC failed to work at all the other day so I pulled over and restarted the ignition. Voila problem solved. I imagine it'll happen again at some stage though.

Doesn't the Octy II have problems with cruise that require a dealer fix. Sure i heard that somewhere.

Some known issues with the stalk

Had similar problem. Looked at switches from VAG COM, in my case it was the set-resume that was intermittant and giving "implausable" readings. I use my car every day as a service engineer, so reluctant to book it in outside of services. So I just sprayed in some switch cleaner to the end of the stalk, cleraed codes, cycled it about 20 times, clened up mess and no more problems in last 3 weeks... Maybe I was just lucky, but might be worth a try.

Well I think I've got this sussed out now - must be something to do with the initialisation sequence.

I have noticed that the problem only seems to occur if I plug my sat nav into the ciggy socket, and switch it on before I turn on the car ignition. CC will not then work for a day or two after.

Have noticed this too often to be coincidence and, once CC is working ok again, it has never gone wrong until this sequence is repeated.

my CC was a bit hit and miss for a while but now it's given up the ghost altogether. Back to the dealer I guess.

Weel, got the CC fixed when car was in for its first service last week - they replaced the stalk and all seem ok -but up to its old tricks again.

So it will be back to the dealers I suppose - anyone had any other problems with the CC or have I just got a 2nd dodgy stalk?

Be surprised if you got a second iffy stalk. Are you sure they replaced it with a new one, if at all?

well, they said they had fixed it - wee phone call tomorrow me thinks

This may be a shot in the dark, but the cruise control went intermittant, then stopped working on our Superb. I was going to wait until next trip to dealers as its less than a year old. However I unscrewed and pulled away the lower right side of the dash to checkout the relays. One was only half plugged in. Problem solved. I also have a year old Octy without cruise control but remembered seeing the relays in the same place when I fitted the phone kit.

Had the same problem on my Octy II. Inop but reset itself on cycling ignition off and on. Dealer has changed stalk but fault has reappeared once in the month since it was fitted.

Don't think they've got a robust fix yet.

If it's not the stalk then it may be the Steering Control Unit.
