Installation of qi module

Featured Replies

Does anybody have any experience on how to build in a qi module (wireless charger) instead of an ashtray, and where to get it, at what cost?

I looked at this option, parts were quite expensive. I couldn't verify would my phone fit with the door closed. I also keep my AAWireless there too.

In the end I purchased a wireless charging mat for automotive use. It currently sits under the armrest where I retrofitted a USB A&C Charging port. The existing USB port is current limited and I blew the hardware fuse twice. Requiring a reboot of the Head unit to restore power.

Others may have better solutions though.

Yeah I’ve done it.

So to do the job properly, the wireless charger is also a phone signal booster which requires an amplifier in the boot and a new shark fin antenna.

After this there is roughly 10 new wires and also 2 new data cables as well as the new parts including the front cubby with the built in wireless charger.

Quite an involved job

You don't want to do it, trust me. My Superb has it and I don't use it on long trips because my iPhone heats up so much that it automatically turns off. It's ok for short trips, but for longer ones, you have to use a cable.

Thanks for the reply, not a lot of positive experiences on that system. I think I have my answer!

I not long ago bought one of these for camping and it was perfect https://groceries.morrisons.com/products/duracell-core10-pd-25w-power-bank-drpb3040a-595067011?srsltid=AfmBOoo5DzJz4-86QvDoL1hlAvmkMNnWB8BTqGJdjUnLy2dWYitrZSRHgq0

What I’m going to do is put that in my arm rest, then find something like what’s in the superb boot (the Velcro plastic load keeper things)

My iPhone 15 fits it perfectly, bit of a bodge but I like cheap bodges that work fine

p.s you can get other power banks which are more powerful, the Duracell is good enough to charge my phone 3 times, charging is much quicker using usb c so can use that too from the power bank or just place it on top for wireless charging
