Thermostat Housing - 1.6

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Just purchased my first Felicia and have noticed the classic, engine not heating up properly whilst driving issue described elsewhere several times on here.

Simple couple of questions:

1) Has anyone bought a housing and stat recently and if so, any recommendation on supplier?

2) Has anyone got any particularly good guides/ photos/ videos that they recommend watching in advance?

Thanks,

Trent

Ah, ευχαριστώ

I didn't know it was possible to buy the thermostat and the housing together so that is helpful advice, I will see if I can find any UK suppliers who can do that.

I presume the ring you refer to is the 0-ring for the fitting? Do the colours mean different sizes and do both usually come with the housing?

I will definitely be changing the coolant, and probably do a few hoses and clips whilst I am there.

Profited is better than buy it separately.

The ring on the thermostat sensor in your car was yellow or blue?

A brand one (with the same colour ring) is much better than a no name or VIKA.

The differences are in the 'C range, always i had problem with the yellow ones.

032121110B must be your part code.

In the end before the trip remove any possible air bubbles and make a pressure test to see if there are any possible leaks.

Morning all,

Thanks for the advice so far Fylaktos. I will check if I am yellow or blue this weekend when I have a look at it.

Is the general problem with the thermostat housing with the small plastic part in Option A below or is it usually necessary to replace the whole larger housing unit (Option B)? Where does the break actually happen?

Option A:

APEC ATH1068 Coolant Thermostat With Housing With Gaskets For Audi Seat Skoda VW - Picture 1 of 5

Option B:

Thermostat Housing for VW SKODA SEAT:FELICIA II Estate,GOLF III Variant, - Picture 1 of 2

You have to remove yours to see the shape-code on it,type etc and then to buy the same.

I'm not sure which part fails when the thermostat doesn't close, but I had failed thermostat in closed state on a 1.4 VW engine and option A fixed it.

Either way it's the thermo-expanding wax which controls the diaphragm that fails.

Not always, various broken plastic parts in the housing can make the valve inoperable even when the core works.

The car I'm refering to has broken plastic part that the valve pushes against to open, so it was stuck closed.

Thanks all. I think I will go for Option A above and hope for the best. I have read that you need to be very careful taking the old one off and putting new one in as you are obviously working with plastic threads etc. I will let you know how it goes.

For future reference, for anyone attempting the same thing, Skoda have confirmed that these parts are no longer available through them but part numbers for 2000 1.6l Felicia are:

6U0919501B temperature sensor

032121110B thermostat

032121121J coolant housing (section of the unit that supports the stat, Option A above)

032121111N coolant housing (whole unit, Option B above)

I will let you know how I get on and try get some photos.

Unfortunately that is the sad true for many parts, only after market are available and sometimes only VIKA.

So many owners if they want Original the buy used parts.
