Superb Mk III - Rear door locking issue

Featured Replies

I've trawled a few posts on this subject as I see it's a fairly common fault, but none seem to show how I can check it's the same common wiring issue.

Just to put some context on it, about 6 months ago my 66 plate L&K estate developed the irritating habit of clicking the auto locking of all doors when I reached the trigger speed, but clicking again when I dropped below the trigger speed.

One of the other threads lead me to this helpful YouTube clip that perfectly captured the issue

However it didn't solve it.

When I waggle the 2nd bit under the dust cap the car will lock once (via the fob) but as soon as I unlock it it won't lock again.

I bought this to see if there were any error codes but there weren't any that related to the door or the locking mechanism (just one that mentioned the drivers seat fan was incorrectly coded).

Im kind of In the headspace to hand it over to a garage and just let them sort it, but having recently fit the door harness in my wife's Fabia I thought I might try to tackle this myself.

I've seen people suggest that the issue might actually be the wiring in the driver's door, and they seem to have a pretty high success rate in sorting it, but as I say there's nothing that shows what I'm looking for or how to get to it.

I'm hoping one (or more) of you lovely folk could advise, please.

Many thanks.

[Additional context - I had water ingress in the car that was causing some red herrings. By that I mean it was just confusing the matter rather than the water was deep enough to sustain Aquatic life. That ingress was caused by DM Keith absolutely ballsing up (and initially denying responsibility for) a panoramic roof drain clean... Which the car didn't need. It went back 3 times before they sorted it... But it wasn't their fault... But they did it FOC and dried the carpets... but it wasn't their fault... It was a tube that had been dislocated... But it wasn't their fault... You get my drift). For a while I wondered if the ingress was causing electrical gremlins.

The car is now dry but the lock issue remains. I suspect it was just pure coincidence]

Took it to a local garage. They diagnosed faulty door lock motor. Part was £197+vat. An hour and a half labour.

£334 total - brutal but at least it works again.
