Engine Workshop!

Featured Replies

I was driving home from Bournemouth today and the car 'bonged' at me with the warning 'Engine Workshop!" and the coil light flashing. Drove about 15 miles and it went off.

Drove another 60 miles or so and was within 1 mile of home and it went off again.

The car start fine and there was no noticeable difference parformance/ handling/ fell/ noise etc.

Does anyone have any ideas?

What could the possible issues be? Is it just a coil is one the way out?

All help appreciated!

Paul

More than likely a brake light switch but you need the fault codes read.

Probably a numpty question, but is there an easy way to do this and understand the codes?

Can I do it mysefl with the right cable and software, leads to the nest question is there anywhere I can get them?

I was advised on my last service that the brake pads were running low, may this cause it or would that throw up a more obvious warning?

Forgive my questions, I'm not a mechanic!

Search for VAG COM.

Thanks for that, the code is:

16955 - Brake Switch (F): Implausible Signal

P0571 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

A colleague at work had the cable and software for his Passat. Very handy!

I'm about to search for that fault code i the forums, but am I right in thinking this is a front brake swtich issue? Where are the brake switches found?

Paul

Try Search for 'brake switch' and on the second page of results you will find a thread linking to a DIY fitting guide.

Cheers guys. I was indeed the brake switch. Getting a new one tomorrow.

Also ordered the VAG cable of eBay (the one identical (same seller too) to the one that worked from my colleague). Well worth the money!
