Glow plug fault - Goes away when the car is warmed up

Featured Replies

New to the forum.

Wondered if anyone else had experienced the same issue and can advise. The glow plug warning light recently started flashing on my Octavia II (2012) 1.6Tdi. It only occurs when the car is cold and I start moving, it puts the car into limp mode. Once the car warms up (after a 5 minute drive), I restart the car, the light goes off and my car runs perfectly normal even on long drives. Local garage said the fault is P067400 Cylinder 4 Glow Plug Circuit. I replaced the plugs but the same issue remains.

I gave the glow plug relay a very basic clean, but it made no difference.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Ben

The glow plug is not needed when the engine is warm so the fault code is not shown.

A likely cause is the cable to glow plug 4. Check with a voltmeter that the supply is getting to that glow plug and to one of the others when someone else turns on the ignition only, for the first time when cold.

The reason for checking against a known good plug is that at this time of year the glow plugs are often not required and will not be energised.

Thank pilpilot, I'll give that a go.

On a few occasions the glow plug light comes on (flashes) after driving for ~2-3 minutes, not at the start. Does this suggest the plugs are needed after the car is started?
