Round at the girlfriends the other day, and there is a knock at the door. She has a wee look to see who it is and its a neighbour.

"thats funny" she says, "The last time a neighbour came to the door, my mates car had been bumped.........."

no prizes for guessing what it was about.......(see pic)

Could have been worse, the airbags could have been set off and another panel could have been scraped, and they could have just driven off and not said a word.......not a mark on their car of course........but fair play to them for telling me!

Will let you know the estimate after I go to the bodyshop tomorrow..........

Yes, fair play indeed. Nice to see some honest people around.

Sorry, that always annoying when that happens.

Who bumped it a random?

At least they said something. My brothers car needed me to go out with tools and cut the wing off so it was drivable. When it got back we had to fit a new wing, pull dents out of the two side doorsdoors, replaced a wing mirror and made sure the samage caused by the wing mirror to the pillar wasn't anything significant. Those b*stards just drove off, although god knows how as they must have hit it at speed, left loads of glass and a large puddle of collant too :S

Just a good job it was an old car on his part.

Makes a refreshing change, normally its a hit and run affair.

Doesn't look too bad and at least it only caught one panel.

Another 3 or 4 inches back and it would have been a different story.

my word, there are alot of you about at this unsociable hour!!

it was the wife of a neighbour across the street. the worst bit was i was going away with the GF for a few days touring, and i had to do it with a bloody great dent in the door! :(

dont think the panel is salveagable, the dent runs up to the door handle. at best they could pop it out and respray as there is couple of light-ish scratches.......but i think its a new door........

they have admitted liability, their insurer (NU) text me and asked me to phone them, and i did, 3 times but no answer. i was on hold for 11 minutes in one phone call!

filled in the insurance claim form today....Q How fast was your vehicle travelling? A How fast does a stationary vehicle travel? (really wanted to put that!!)

(i believe the golf has 'skins' on the the door frame to reduce repair costs and times, does this apply to the Octavia?????? )

As of tomorrow I am on 2 weeks leave hence I am on here at this hour.

I dont know if the door skin technology has crossed over to the Octavia.

I would be just as interested to know myself.

Ahh norwich union, SWMBO's car was hit by a NU driver and it was a total nightmare to sort out.

Aren't they in Bangalore or something like that?

Aren't they in Bangalore or something like that?

spoken to NU.

as the other party have admitted liability, just need to get the car fixed, no excess to pay etc.......:)

Well Had a trolly bash not reported to me, and in a bit of a delema have ordered my new car and the salesperson didnt mention it to me Will I get it repared or not.

Ive just got my car back after a nasty side scrape. I asked the bodyshop if they replaced the doors or just the skin? They said they dont muck about removing door skins, to much labour involved so they just change the whole door. Dont know if this will apply to every body repair place.

Just a guess but I reckon about

The estimator chap said that they can get new doorskins, but that they wouldnt do it to a new car, also the frame is a bit twisted (see the gap in the photo)

Booked in for when i am in Barcelona at a mates wedding at the beginning of August. 4-5 day job apparently......

What a pain but at least they owned up. Keep the photos and any paperwork from the bodyshop so that when you try to sell the car in the future you can say why it has been repaired. This happened to us and the dealer wondered what the repair was for and tried to de-value the car.

I would hope the repair is not noticeable or I will kick up ****!!

Arnold Clark, you have been warned........

The repair was perfect, but was logged on the BMW Bodyshop computer. That's how come the dealer knew about it.

Well, brilliant of your neighbour to confess - that really is refreshing in my books. :D

Ah, I see.

Its not going to the local VAG bodyshop, so might not show on the system..........but as you say, keep the paperwork to keep everything above board.
