Octavia Scout 2016 MKIII - Disable foglight on together with turnsignal light

Featured Replies

Hi

For some reason the foglight on the right side turns on if I turn on my right blinker and vice versa for left hand side. This only happens when the light switch is in the 3 o'clock position(full on/manual) but not in the two other positions. As I only want full lights to be on at any given time, I want to know if it is possible to turn this feature off where the foglight goes on together with the turnsignal?

I ask because I am planning to install yellow LED bulbs for the fog lights, and I do not want orange blinking lights, and then a yellow light turning on below that. I'm also going to install more powerful blinker bulbs together with better blinker units in the sidemirrors. This is why I feel that will be more than good enough, so I'd like to just have the foglights to stay off during turnsignal operation.

Is this possible and how?

Welcome.   A mod can maybe close one of the threads you have started so that there are not 2 running.

I started this thread because I feel the first one may be in the wrong place and I cannot delete my own posts for some reason.

Is this a "Feature" of the car or a malfunction? So many cars now have the annoying (dangerous IMO) feature of the headlight switching off when the indicator switches on.

Cornering Fog Lights.

Straight wheels with only turn signal turned on. I can sit in my car without touching the steering wheel. If I apply right turn signal, the right fog light will also turn on, and vice versa for left. It's got nothing to do with steering input. That's why I want it off, and cornering light only for cornering.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen this. Examples?

That’s also normal operation for cornering fogs.

anyway, VCDS or OBDeleven can be used to make this change. It’s easy enough. You just need to find someone local to help you.

Many have the DRL switch off when the indicator is on.  As to a Cornering Fog coming on, that gives a clue at least with those that do not bother using the indicators.

I have also ordered LED Switchback bulbs(both white and yellow in same bulbs), but it seems like you most often need a ballast with those. I also suspect them to be a bit weaker in brightness than the other bulbs I've bought, so not really sure if I want to run with them instead.

If I need some diagnostic tool, it might be best for now to do it together with a service at a workshop.

Newer Volvo's have that feature, but I think it's only at daytime if the driver uses auto lights, so only the leds are active. During normal driving they are white, and if the driver apply turn signal, the white changes to blinking orange which means that's all you see from the complete headlight unit.

Ah ok, so it’s the DRL that turns off.  Not the headlight. The Mk3 Octavia is the same. The indicator is the same LED strip as the DRL.

Not my MK3. It's a Scout, but still an Octavia mk3. I have a separate blinker bulb in the corners of my bi-xenon headlight units.

The facelift LED units utilise both LED strip for indicator and DRL. You are correct for the pre-facelift however 👍

Hmm, that makes me think that might be the reason why I only got 2 holes on the rear of my headlight unit from factory and that I have to cut holes to change the turn signal bulbs as well as ordering 2 plastic covers with screws to seal it up again. Maybe they just said F this, we're soon updating the unit, so why care about the one's who actually have turn signal bulbs inside...

Anyhow, I also need to remove the front to get access to it all so I can just change a couple light bulbs. Pretty terrible solutions here. Thankfully I need to change a balast in the same go, but hopefully I can change turn signal bulbs in the future by just opening the hood...
