I want to buy a Skoda Octavia mk2 VRS

Featured Replies

Hello I own an Octavia mk2 and I want to sell it and buy an VRS model, I prefer the non-facelift. The problem is I dont know what engine codes where used and which are good and bad. So, if you know anything about any engine codes used on this car, please tell me, i would be so glad!!

Petrol or Diesel?

i prefer diesel

BMN 170 PD TDI DPF but if you can find a CEGA 170 CR TDI DPF would be better.

These are the only 2 used? wasnt BMN only on nfl and CEGA only on fl?

They are the only 2 VRS 170 diesel engines yes, most pre FL are BMN but you can get an LE which is Pre FL outside but post FL inside with the CEGA engine like this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/186600442411 I had one wish I hadn't sold it.

Very nice car, i presume you have BMN, how reliable is it? i do some research and many consider that its one of the worst 2.0 TDI made

No I had CEGA which is a common rail with DPF, better than the PD BMN with DPF as the PD was never designed to have a DPF, the CR was, I had no issues with the CEGA in 2 years I owned it.

So CEGA was used on nfl? Does it smokes with dpf and egr delete?

CEGA is available but rare on NFL, but if you are now talking about EGR and DPF deletes then that changes the question, the PD lump BMN in my opinion would be the better one with a DPF and EGR delete as I prefer the way it delivers the power, feels more torquey, neither the CEGA or BMN should smoke with a DPF and EGR delete with a proper map, I've mapped many PD's and if you do it right they do not smoke, in fact in some cases emissions drop.

The reason BMN may be classed as crap is because they were strangled by the DPF which a PD was never designed to have in the first place.

Thank you for all the info, I will consider buy a nfl with CEGA. Wish you all the best!
