Edc16u34 program

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a 2009 Octavia 2.0 diesel which had a wire run from battery to run lights on the roof (truck pilot work) . This got shorted out (no fuse). After that anti skid light was on, airbag light and another (unsure). I researched and discovered it was probably the ECU (Bosch edc16u34).

I found another one with exactly the same OE Number (03G 906 021 TC).

Is this a plug and play unit or will it need to be coded to my car?

Can only Skoda do that or can a good auto electrician?

Thanks

You or previous owner were lucky that the wire from the battery did not cause a fire.

I doubt that the ECU has failed. More likely the unfused cable had been bundled with other cables (such as in the A pillar) and caused further damage to those cables.

A "new" ecu may have to be programmed with any options that you had such as beeps on door locking/unlocking  or rear wiper active when in reverse gear and it is raining. Either way I suggest you go to an auto electrician with a good reputation. To answer your question, that can be done by Skoda or an auto electrician with the right equipment.

Thanks, the cable wasn't bundled, it went from the battery and was pinched at the bonnet hinge.

I think I have to take it to Skoda

All cables must be fused. The fuse must be rated to protect the cable and not the the load. You can of course put in a smaller fuse to protect both if you wish. Many car fires are cuased by individuals running a cable to loads such as a winch, roof lights or bass amplifiers without even giving a thought to putting in a fuse where the cable picks up up its power, such as straight onto the battery.

Yeah I know that and would've done that and my friend I lent it to should have known, but didn't do it.

Have you had a diagnostics scan done?

Could I read your dissertation? Has it been published?

Looking at lights on the instrument cluster is not conducting diagnostics.

I agree with @pikpilot "I doubt that the ECU has failed."

Kev.
