Playing Snap at Eurotunnel with Andorran 280

Featured Replies

Well, just got home in Staffordshire after 12 days holiday in France. I never saw another 280 in 1500 miles apart from as we arrived at the duty free car park in Calais we literally both pulled up to passport control at the same time. I simply had to pull up alongside. My wife got a little thumbs up while I was stocking up on duty free.

The TSI280 has become almost as rare in France as unicorns, due to the massive CO2 emissions taxes since 2018 (around 50% of the list price 🤯 🤑 😤 if new). And even if you think of importing a second hand one from another EU country (mostly Germany, Luxembourg, Italy or even Switzerland), this tax is still due with a slight reduction depending on the age of the car.

My oh my, you’d have to be pretty committed in that case!

I didn’t realise they were punished to that extent, I was pleasantly surprised at how reasonable mine is to tax

This crazy tax can reach up to €60000 for any car whose CO2 emissions exceed 194g/km.

Just to give you an idea: The New Mk4 with TDI193 in 4x4 and L&K version is 'granted' a €3800 tax for CO2 emissions with its 158g/km (+ €1100 compared to the 2023 tax for the same CO2 emission level).

The New Kodiaq Mk2 (with same engine, transmission and trim version) is granted a €7250 tax with its 168g/km (+ €2100 compared to the 2023 tax for the same CO2 emission level).

Non speaking about the weight tax (€10 per kg for cars exceeding 1600kg and +€15 per kg from 1800kg, +€20€ per kg from 1900kg, +€25 per kg from 2000kg and +30€ per kg above 2100kg).

E.g.: A car weighing 1850kg means 100x10 + 100x15 + 50x20 = €3500 as extra weight tax. 😡

"Luckily", the total amount of these 2 taxes cannot exceed €60000...

Note: All PHEVs will also have to face this weight tax from 1st jan. 2025 (with a 200kg 'discount'). All good, as if PHEV batteries were light as feathers...

French government, will soon complain that the french car fleet is old, produces too much CO2 emissions and becomes less safe...

Politicians decisions... 🙄

Enjoy your TSI280! Lucky you! 😉
