Electric Rear window - Dropped out.

Featured Replies

Hey.

During this heat I lowered the rear window on my Octy from the drivers seat to hear a loud "Crunch" - and the window wouldn't go up again.

I've taken the door apart, and the glass and it's holder had fallen off the bottom of the slider, looking like it's lost a clip that held it in place, however there was nothing loose in the bottom of the door and i couldn't work out how it all goes back together - it was late and i'd just driven 200 miles...

The electrics still whirr when i press the up & down button, so i think the electrics are still ok.

The window is now being held in place by the miracle duct tape, but want to get it sorted.

What's the most common reason for this happening? What should i look for?(Haynes manual is currently in the post....)

Cheers!

There is a replacement bit, as the plastic holders had a habit of breaking IIRC not just on Octys but also Golfs.

Go to the dealer and get a full set for all your windows and change the plastic clips for the replacement ones and hopefully that should fix the problem.

Do you have the part number for these?

I don't I just remember a dealer telling another customer about it who had a 1999 model car that they had all been changed due to a modified part. I think the new part might be metal rather than plastic, but I honestly can't remember I am affraid.

Hi

Had this happen to my 1999 Octavia a couple of years ago. My local dealer charged £95 to replace the clip. No trouble since.

Bar stewards.

Still you now have a spare regulator for when one goes funny.

I can't believe they won't sell you the clips alone.

call jbs i saw them changing 1 on a golf

I think the clips are available separately for the US market following an outcry there about their high failure rate.
