Diesel consumption increased

Featured Replies

While we are off topic, tonight I got my best ever MPG on a short run that I do at least once a week.

Cold start, 4 miles outward journey.

Return a couple of hours later so another cold start and 4 mile journey, well not so cold here in September!

I got caught by the traffic lights on both journeys.

Overall  was 61.5 mpg which is pretty amazing for a non slippery brick with 4wd transmission!

I was up to 54 mpg on arrival at destination after 4 miles.

My best ever before was 57.something probably with green lights both ways.

I was probably driving a little slower the road has been planed for resurfacing and had no markings and I see my opthalmo tomorrow, perhaps my night vision is not as good, hardly any traffic as always.

Fuel consumption is linked to number of regeneration of the dpf and the quality of the fuel

*UPDATE*

I got myself the VAG DPF app and a dongle and it turns out the DPF is regenerating a lot, it did it 3 time in a 120 mile journey last night, i screen recorded the app on my phone so i could look back at it and the soot mass measured is climbing really quickly, it went from 7 to 23 grams in 20 minutes, also the the differential pressure would occasionally jump from 50ish hPa to 100-170 hPa for a few seconds while not regenerating, with my limited knowledge i would expect the differential pressure to rise at a steady rate as DPF fills, could a faulty sensor cause the soot reading to be incorrect and make it regen when it doesn't really need to?
