Difficulty shifting from 1st to 2nd only when moving

Featured Replies

I would say that this is not gearbox/synchro issue. When you accelerate in gear, engine, gearbox and shifting cables are under strain because of the engine movement and they move back and forth on mounts. When you let of the gas and give some time for components to return to their "normal" position everything is fine. Either you have faulty engine/gearbox mounts or shifting cables need slight adjustment. You can try to adjust shifting cables your self, lot of good videos on dieselgeek's (they product short shifters for VW cars) YT channel. If you try doing it yourself you will see how little changes in position reflect gear change, stationary and while driving.

It is also known that the MBQ manual gearbox has a lot of movements due to the use of plastics and upgrading the plastic pin to a diesel geek metal superpin helps.

Yes but if it was mounts it would be constant, mine is more of a until the car warms uo properly and then its smooth as butter. Maybe worth mentioning that i feel a lot of vibrations through the clutch around the bjte point so like i kind of know when ifs about to happen. Thanks

Makes sense since fluids and cables will also expand as the temperature rises. Maybe it would be wise to check the clutch cylinder fluid (level, consistency) because if the clutch is not fully disengaging, the gear shift will not be smooth.
