Skoda app completely useless.

Featured Replies

I found the Skoda Essentials app very useful in the information it provided by journey though irritating in its tendency not to connect.  By contrast, tne new, improved Skoda app is pretty well entirely useless, both in the information provided and in its reliability in providing it and really appears to have been designed, created, tested and approved by someone who has never owned a car and, possibly, has never driven in one.

Does anyone really want to know the driving statistics per day rather than the driving statistics per journey, when with the latter you can check back and monitor the car's performance for certain types of journey, about town, medium distance and so on? (I noticed that in reviews of the app online when someone commented on how useful the data by journey was, it was suggested in a reply from Skoda that this information could be recorded by writing down the data from the dashboard display at the end of each journey - a very similar idea to the way I recorded fuel consumption on my VW Beetle 52 years ago!  So much for the digital age.)

Is the average mileage etc per day of use, (especially when it is wrong)  For the period 3rd to 8th September, my total mileage is shown as 22 mile and the average per day as 3 miles.

Turning to reliability in providing information, the current app has failed to record journeys (for example, for 3rd to 8th September, only travel for Monday and Tuesday is shown and not for other days of the week) and on occasions has recorded journeys that haven't taken place, for example, on 3rd August, it shows travel of 43 miles when the car was not used!

Looking at  the opening Car page of the app, top left beneath the words My Kamiq, it shows two arrows and the date and time of 03/09 at 17:03, suggesting that this was the last time it connected with some where, but there is no way I can see of getting the app to repeat this, e.g. by logging out and then logging back in.

In the Profile section, there is a  Contact Us box and tapping that produces a menu starting with "Report an issue" and tapping on this produces an Issue report from, but when you complete this and submit it, you get the puzzling message

"Thank you for informing us about this problem.  If you would like to resolve it further, please contact the customer service line"!

I have both My Skoda and Skoda Essentials apps on my phone and both work on my Kamiq and agree the essentials is much more user friendly.

But Skoda Essentials has supposedly been discontinued!

I have logged into my Skoda Essentials account and find it is stll accessible although at one time it was supposed to have been unavailable from 17th July (there is now a notice saying access to it has been extended beyond that date for a smooth transition to the new MySkoda app).

However, there is nothing in my Skoda Essentials app after 3rd September!

Yes, I can log into it but data for travelling ends at 3rd September, although there is a health check for today!

Very strange, mine for today..

Very strange, I'll follow things up with them and thank you for your help.

Both versions of the app are working for me.

I’ve been driving for over 30 years and up until recently I never had the option to check my mpg or average speed on an app. Thing is, back in the glory days of the early 90’s when I was tearing around in my Escort XR3i my mpg or average speed was the last thing on my mind.  Same throughout the 2000’s with my various other cars, until relatively recently when apps became available to check such things.

Point is, I didn’t care then and I don’t care now.  Do any of you really drive like your nan just to see how high you can get your mpg on the app?  If you do I feel very sorry for you, and would encourage you to get a life.

My car is a tool for me to get from A to B, work, the shops etc, therefore I get in and drive it.  If I want to put my foot down I put my foot down, if I don’t I don’t, the app is the last thing on my mind.  I totally get the argument for driving conservatively in order to save fuel, but in reality how much in monetary terms are you actually saving, a quid in every full tank?  Two quid maybe?

All that effort and stress to save a pound or two, I’ve got far better things to worry about.

The ONLY thing remotely useful is the health check of the car, although I suspect that even that isn’t totally reliable.

Im all for progress, but this app just seems like a useless gimmick to me, and therefore not worth a second of my time worrying about it.

Each to his own I suppose.

I've been driving for 52 years and I have always kept a note of mpg by recording mileage at filling up the tank and gallons put in as a matter of course, partly as means of monitoring overall fuel economy and partly as a means of monitoring the car's performance and my driving, no question at all of driving like my nan (not that I had one) for the sake of mpg figures.   This has been no great effort, no stress and a fair bit of money saved over the years and the app, when it works, is a useful tool in this.

Your concern about my lack of a life is appreciated but misplaced. I have had two successful careers in different professions, been a volunteer photographer with the fire brigade (no driving like nan there) and an instructor in civil defence, as well as being involved in local government and societies in various roles over the years.

And I did my bit of "tearing about" in  the 70s following the Skoda rally team in the RAC Rally over the years, including setting  John Haugland's mind at rest in the first outing of the Skoda Coupe in the RAC Rally by lending him a footpump for the event as the team had forgotten to provide one.

And in view of the penultimate sentence of your post, I wonder why you went to the effort of posting at all.

You seem offended mate, no offence intended.

I “went to the effort of posting” because I cannot believe some of the futile posts I keep reading on this forum.  As far as I can tell the only reason someone would be bothered about the app is because they are that bothered about their mpg figures.  Drive like your nan, you are probably saving a quid here or there, I’ve got far more important things to worry about.

Horses for courses, no need to get upset.

I am a firefighter and drive fire appliances, I only mention it as you said you were a photographer for the fire brigade.  What’s your point?

Enjoy the app, I hope it brings you joy👍

No, not offended  just irritated by a "futile post" which doesn't add anything useful to the thread,

If you use the app and the data it provides over time, it's far more useful than that.  You also appear to confuse economical driving with slow driving (assuming, that is, that references to driving "like your nan", mean driving slowly).   Economical driving involves matching speed, gears, braking, route, driving style and time of travel appropriately, although you can't necessarily control or influence all of these at any one time.  And economical driving saves more than "a quid here or there" when you consider the way you drive affects fuel and oil consumption, brake and tyre wear and engine wear.

Horses for courses, no need to get upset.

Agreed, so why post a contentious and irrelevant post?

In your post you expressed concern that I might be missing out on life by driving economically, I was merely pointing out that, so far, I hadn't.

Enjoy the app, I hope it brings you joy👍

It's a tool, that's all.

An update having contacted Skoda with information.

Asked to check whether using latest app version, if not to download it.  Also asked to send a screen shot and details of mobile 'phone and spoftware version.

Uninstalled and app four times and downloaded and installed lastest version (7.5.1) four times, but app still says it's version 7.5.0!

Got back to Skoda with this info.

I started reading your reply then got bored after the second sentence.  I tried, sorry.

Listen, if you want to drive like your nan just to  get the buzz of seeing your mpg on the app then you fill your boots mate, we all have our weird little traits, there’s no shame.

Id strongly argue that my input didn’t add anything to the thread, I was trying to highlight to our new Skoda friends that it’s not healthy to be so obsessed with the app and mpg figures.  Jesus, life is far too short.

Your life must be very very simple, lucky you👍

I bet you’re fun on a night out, drop me a message if you ever fancy a drink………(actually don’t bother) 🙄😂😂😂

carefree, live up to your name and worry less about what other people do so long as it doesn't harm you or complicate your life unnecessarily.

Drive how you want to drive so long as you don't endanger others, and let others do the same.

Life is never simple for anyone nowadays (and probably never was), but you've got to learn to live with it and try not to make it more difficult, for yourself or other people.

Hahaha brilliant😂

Seaman, I literally couldn’t care less what you or anyone else does, but I do care when having been a member here since 2004 I’m lately reading more and more flakey, whinging posts about things like Apps not recording to the exact millilitre the amount of fuel they’ve used and the exact amount of miles they’ve driven, it’s frankly both hilarious and embarrassing.

I wouldn’t dream of contacting Skoda because the app isn’t working properly, it is beyond embarrassing, and frankly they couldn’t give a stuff either.  To them people like you are just a pain in the backside.  The app is a novelty mate, when it works it’s mildly useful and when it doesn’t it affects no one’s life…….apart from yours obviously 😂

Allow me to educate you, these apps and the things they record are NOT exact, and yes sometimes they have glitches and don’t work at all, it’s called technology and life.

As for me endangering others, I’ve probably got less chance than you of that, because I’m not spending half my time worrying and fiddling with the technology to ensure everything is working tickety boo.

My life is very simple thanks, no unnecessary stress and no obsessing about things that often just don’t work.

Hey maybe your life is much better than mine, because if all you’ve for to worry about is a novelty app that records your mpg and trip data you really cannot have anything, ANYTHING else to worry about.

You lucky lucky man😉

A gentle reminder gentlemen, the site rules and general summary:  be nice. Points can be made, respectfully.

otherwise I have to spend time in my life sorting out and reading pages and pages of … well you get the idea ;) not many days left for any of us, no point wasting words.

Colin, I’ve been a member since 2004, so I know the etiquette.

I was merely saying that the app wasn’t for me and a waste of time, if someone gets offended thats their problem.

I will defend myself when I need to, whether you ban me or not.

Peace and love🤘

no ban sticks here, forgot to put them on charge after Brexit.

its a difficult world we live in. The old adage of one man’s scrap is another’s gold, is too true on so many metaphorical levels for our society today.

So, all’s good ;)
