Skoda octavia 1.6 tdi manual transmission 2015

Featured Replies

Hi
I have a question specifically for car mechanics.

I have a gearbox oil leak on skoda 2015 1.6 tdi car 2015 . I have been told need to replace my gear box. Is there anything I can do to solve the leak without as this will cost minimum a few thousand pounds if reconditioned or upto £800 if I replace with a salvaged one.

The leak is between number 30 and 31 in the photo.

Can this problem be rectified by any normal mechanic Or does this require a gearbox specialist? How many hours will this take to sort out and at what price?

Any advice and suggestions is appreciated.

It is highly unlikely that you need a new gearbox unless you've lost all the oil and driven it hard with no oil.

So...find a proper VW specialist, get their expert opinion and get the main seal fixed.

A VW specialist is unlikely to split a gearbox to resolve a leak.

You need to find a gearbox specialist to split it and check it over for other issues as well.
