Superb IV EV vs ICE mileage in diag tool?

Featured Replies

Morning all!

I recently purchased a 70 reg Superb Sportline IV.

I can't see it anywhere in the in car menus so wondering if anyone knows if the widely used scan tools log EV vs ICE running miles? I'd presume this is a metric that the car records.

I.e if the vehicle has done 50000miles what's the split of that between electric motor and combustion engine?

There's not been anything found as of about a year ago when it was discussed on EV forums.  This was on the Superb, Passat and Golf.

Failing the above question. Do any of the diag tools state engine mileage vs dash milage as could draw conclusions from that

also (and feel free to correct me if I',m wrong) its not just the 2 buckets is it ?

As Well as the  pure ICE & pure EV buckets there is also the amount of combined Hybrid useage to take into consideration

How much fuel you put in the tank gives a pretty good idea how often the engine will be running, and how much electricity you use charging the car.

As it is the Oil still gets changed annually or at 9,600 miles on a Fixed Regime, & the spark plugs every 40,000 miles or so,

even if the car only ever uses 1 tank of petrol in a year and has done the 9,600 miles on electricity.

I'm sure you're correct. However, I believe that they'll only be online together when there's a high power demand which in my current driving experience I may never have seen, or only for split seconds.

Agreed not asking for that purpose.

It'd be something I'd be curious of in high mileage cars for sale.

^^^ Absolutely.     Or any miles.

(The Media / Government seem to think because a PHEV cable in the boot has never been un-wrapped / used that the car was never being charged.

totally ignoring the car was maybe used on a charger with a tethered cable, or a 3 pin cable or something else.)

Many will not want to touch 'High miles' PHEV,s with someones else's barge pole.

The Engine hopefully has a miles / km / hours counter.    & record of the Time / hours run like a generator or plant has.

I have dug around along with others (far more knowledgeable than me) in SpeakEV forum.  Noone has found anything of such interest.  It's frustrating because it would influence how many would service their car.  If, like you say, the ICE was used for a single tank over 12 months then I would be more than happy to stretch the oil change period.  I also try to only run the car in EV on the work bound commute to save the engine firing up and not being used warm.  Apart from the couple of times a month we go for longer drives I wish I had a full EV for commuting.  Would have been more practical to keep my Octavia for the tip or long drive.

I would not want to keep the engine oil in 'long time mister'  if the engine was only firing up for the odd 5 minutes several times a day or a week & never getting up to heat if the car was a keeper.  (or owned not leased.)

Then there is the OPF.

But if the engine runs seldom the Air Filter will be a look see and change as and when needs must.

It is a real pity if a Battery can not have a 'Certification' on its State of Degradation, and an Engine its Mileage running logged.

Looking at the OP in the linked post it looks like their car was charged twice a day every day for nearly 5 years?

Possibly not sure, once before work and once at work I wonder

I don’t have an iv, but might be worth someone looking at the values then plug in and see which one goes up, not sure the difference between top one and locking

I guess the mileage that was on the car would indicate what it was doing too.
