EGR recirculation Valve Fault

Featured Replies

I have a 1.4 16v Fabia and have 88k miles on the clock. About a year ago, I had to change the EGR recirculation valve as it was coming up with a fault.

Now it is giving a new fault like "high flow rate??" and the garage is not clear what the cause may be. I am being told that I may need to change a valve first to fix a reduced pressure in one of the cilinders before we can proceed with more extensive testing for the high flow rate of the EGR valve.

Has anyone had this problem before and do you have any ideas about the cause ..?

Obviously spending lots of money is not a prefered option....

Any ideas on this one, Ross?

Is it definately a high flow rate? Has the EGR valve been adapted correctly?

Having a reduced or low flow rate is pretty common and is caused by a blocked EGR port under the throttle valve. If you remove the airbox check for excessive oil in the inlet system, then remove the throttle body and you can see the EGR port below this, its needs to be clear/

Well the exact details from the screen print are as follows:

16786 P0402 035

16786 exhaust gas recirculation

Flow too high.

The garage has not managed to identify the root of the problem so any suggestions are welcome.....

Is it a Skoda dealer?

Yes it is a Skoda dealer.

It is the Tunbridge Wells Dealer.

Is there oil in the intake at all?

So does anyone have any ideas, or is my Fabia near the end of its economic life?

The garage certainly thinks so, but at 90,000 miles only, I think it is too early for that.........

So does anyone have any ideas,

I have plenty, but it involves you answering the questions I have asked.

i have asked the garage and the answer is that ther was no oil in the valve or the intake.........

Is the intake and valve easily accessible, and can I check it myself or do I need expert help???

It is easy enough, pop the air filter up and get under it. Undo the four allen key bolts that hold the throttle body down, dont disconnet the plug and swing the throttle body out of the way. Under there is the EGR port. Make sure the side vents are clear of debris.

I too have the same problem with my 24,000 mile 16V. I have a fault code reader which shows the same code 16786 exhaust gas recirculation - flow high.

Did you manage to fix it?

The same problem has just developed with my 16V 100BHP BBZ engine at approx 30000.

Is the valve a solenoid ? These usually respond to a light tap with a hammer !

First job is to check the ECU is running the ltest software version, there are quite a few updates for the 1.4 16v which sort a lot of problems.

I put my first post here http://www.briskoda.net/forums/maintenance-performance/advice-required/86483/

I have the same problem with my 1.4 16v 51 reg Fabia which has done 53000 miles. EGR sensor caused engine management light to come on due to excessive gases.

Skoda dealer diagnosed piston ring problems - I've had the piston rings done & the EGR sensor changed (ouch) but the same symptoms have occurred again (as well as engine management light on, also using a lot of oil).

I can't believe there seem to be so many people with this problem!!

Anyone know if there are any other potential causes other than the piston rings??

Thanks.

I am on my third EGR valve and have the fault AGAIN on my 1.4 16v bought in Feb 04 so am looking at a FOURTH in less than four years.

Is this an inherent fault with this model?

My garage (not dealership as Skoda won;t fix it for me for free so I'm not paying
