Skoda Octavia IV FL - Sometimes can't disengage reverse gear

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I bought an Octavia IV FL 2 weeks ago. I'm noticing that sometimes after I've been in reverse gear and I switch to first gear, the car will still go backwards. Last time this happened was today and I tried going into 2nd gear, even 3rd gear, the car was still going backwards. This is on even ground, not on a hill.

I saw this topic here with the same problem but it's for MK3.

Is there anything I'm doing wrong or should I call the dealership?

Just to add more context - this is the 1.5 engine, 150 hp, mechanical gear box.

I have known this problem in auto's, when changing too quickly from one gear to another, but never heard of it in manual before. Are you rapidly changing gear by chance, whilst still at a decent rate of revs?

No, no rapid changes at all. Very gentle start from parked position or at a traffic light.

In that case I'd contact the dealer immediately if I was you. Someone more mechanically minded than me might be able to offer better advice, as I say I've only ever known that happen on automatic vehicles, when you reverse quite rapidly then quickly change the gear into drive without stopping or at least letting your revs settle down
