How do I keep radio on after shutting engine off?

Featured Replies

In my 2008 Octavia I listen to music via aux cable, and sometimes when I turn the engine off, the radio will stay on and the music will keep playing until I take the key out of the ignition. How do I make it so this happens all the time? It is annoying for it to only happen from time to time, as I find it a good feature, not having to keep engine on to finish listening to the song.

Hi, welcome.

More information is needed and you might be better looking and or asking in the Octavia Mk2 forum.  I would have thought when the music stops should be consistent.  What is plugged into both ends of the aux cable (Blues,  Bolero, Amundsen and other end).

Have you looked at the instruction book for the car's player, if you do not have the paper printed copy you can get a free VWŠkoda pdf version to download, and the very useful car's Owner's Manual from the following VWŠkoda site. - Owner's Manual -  https://manual.skoda-auto.com/004/en-com/Models

Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013) Also referred to as the Octavia, Octavia II, A5 Octavia and includes the Octavia Scout, forum. - https://www.briskoda.net/forums/forum/28-skoda-octavia-mk-ii-2004-2013/

I hope that helps.

Leave the key in the ignition and don't open the door?

For more info, I have my phone connected via aux for music, and I do nothing else except turn the engine off. In the owner's manual nothing similar to my question is described anywhere.

Normal behaviour is for the radio to stay on until you remove the key.

If it's intermittent, then I expect something in your ignition barrel is starting to fail or it's become loose enough that it thinks the key has been taken out :)

Or it could be a fault with the phone or connecting cable or a computer program in the infotainment or phone.

Not for me (I dislike "smart" (they are not) phones) but for others to know and possibly be able to help you what phone, what music service, what cable are you using?

I found out that pushing the key more into the barrel turns the radio back on as if it was working as intended. So it is a problem within the ignition barrel, as suggested above. When pushing the key more inwards, the key goes in a bit, and then the whole barrel goes in a bit. Now do you reckon there would be a way to fix this without too much hassle (mechanic/replacing whole barrel)? I had the barrel worked on a while ago because after inserting the key it would not turn at all, but this problem is present from before that, so I don't think that that repair messed with something related to this.

Have you got a lot of other keys and/or other objects on your keyring?

Go back to whoever worked on the barrel before, have they left the barrel (and switch?) loose otherwise you might need a replacement of one or both.

Now that is the type of information that is very useful very often.

Tried it and it worked several times, so for now simply pushing the key in slightly while turning the engine off will do the trick. Thank you for your inputs.
