Stage 1 Tune or Engine Swap for My Octavia 2.0 TDI – Need Advice!

Featured Replies

I own a 2016 Octavia 2.0 TDI with 110,000 km on it, and I’m considering doing a basic Stage 1 tune using a Serial Port Switch (SPS) so I can switch between stock and tuned profiles. However, a friend suggested that it might be better to swap in a VRS 245 engine since it has the DQ250 transmission, which could handle the power well and should fit easily. I'm also open to other engine recommendations that would be compatible with my car. Looking for suggestions! what would i do?"

Don't waste your time.  Leave it stock and look after it.  If it doesn't do what you want, sell it and buy a TSI.

"should fit easily" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.

Obviously it will fit, as it's an Octavia engine being put into an Octavia.

Easily is up for debate.

Have you performed an engine swap before?

Changing from a diesel to a petrol engine is a non starter. You have to change total running gear, fuel tank, ECUs wiring loom, instrument panel.

Sell the car and buy what you want.

Your friend has no idea about the size of the issue.

?Did the 2017 2.0 TSI 245 come with a DQ250 6 speed or was it launched with the DQ381 7 Speed DSG & the VAQ diff.

?

How much would that cost with loom and all the bits and pieces?  You would need a written off vehicle would you not, but without all the front end panned in?
