Harsh/Stiff suspension

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I hope you're all doing well.

About 2 months ago, I bought a 2019 Skoda Superb 2.0 TDI (150hp) - 67k km. The previous owner had lowered the car shortly after buying it new by installing Eibach springs and upgrading to R19 wheels. Visually, the car looked stunning, but every road obstacle, pothole, and irregularity felt like a major jolt.

Since I was given the original springs, I decided to switch them back and also replaced the R19 wheels with R17s. Initially, the ride felt slightly better, but over time, it seems to have gotten worse. There’s now a lot of vibration, and I’ve noticed that the car feels unstable over potholes, with the steering wheel moving unexpectedly.

Given that the car was lowered and driven on R19 wheels for 4 years, could the suspension components be worn out?

For context, I used to drive a 2022 Peugeot 2008, which was much more comfortable. I understand I’m comparing an SUV to an estate, but I had higher expectations for the Superb, as I see it as a more luxurious car.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Yes quite possibly components worn / well used, even though a low mileage (km,s) in 4 years.

The owner very likely used the car in a more spirited driving style or maybe just rook speed bumps and poor road surfaces a bit quick.

So budget not just for changing wheels / tyres.   Flog what you have on here maybe, just a small charge.

Maybe buy wheels and tyres from a member on here.

Budget not just for dampers but rubber parts.

?

Which country are you in?

Currently has 215/55/R17 wheels with pirelli tyres. It's worth mentioning that the tyres are the original ones from 2019, but only have 5000km (according to previous owner and backed by the overall visual look). They were kept in proper tyre bags away from the elements (sun, rain) - garage.

I'm from Portugal.

Thinking about taking it to the shop. I'm just trying to get some input before probably do it, because this will probably be expensive as hell, not sure.

by first forget about silent suspension on whatever MQB car 😞

as next check out shocks -
on my previous 2016. Mk3 220ps FWD front OEM DCC shocks were replaced on 43 kKm left and at 48 kKm right
