I need to replace a headlamp washer cover on my Mk3

Featured Replies

I discovered that the cover over the washer nozzle on my N/S headlamp washer was missing after a long road trip. I have since purchased a replacement cover, but not to sure just how to do the fitting of the cover to the washer which extends from the bumper when operated. Has anyone ever done this? If so, I would appreciate any comments and tips on how I should do this?

I think the consensus previously was getting someone in the car to spray the lights so you can grab the extended washer nozzle.  You should then able to clip on the new cover

That is what I had thought, problem is getting someone to do it with me. You say previously as if it has already been asked here, but I did a search for things relating to headlight washers and drew a blank.

Maybe, there's a "maintenance mode" using VCDS or something like this? Otherwise, you may be showered when clipping the cover on the washer... 🤔

That would be useful if there is one, however I have not come across one while playing around with it.

Maybe this? Looks like you just pull it.

MK7 golf but close enough and bound to similar

On Audis with the same system, the nozzle is "extended" by pressure, which means there are no mechnical locks in place.

The way we would work, say prep the car for paint, is to gently pull the nozzle out, you can do it manually, until is sufficiently out to grab it and, usually the cover is clipped in place. Once the cover 'clicks' in place, slowly lower the nozzle to its rest position. The key is to do all movements gradually, if you rush you can break the clip on the cover or worse, as one of the fellas in the workshop did, broke the bracket holding the nozzle .... bumper down and finding a replacement was a pain.

I recently took off my wife's Lexus bumper for paint and the procedure was the same, with the different it had a metal slider clip - clever.

EDIT: I forgot, I;ve neever tried on the Superb, I have to go to the garage now and will attempt and re-post tonight, but on the other cars it was enough just to patiently use fingers/nails to "catch" the edge of the cover, and then start the pull ... lighty so.

If you have weak fingers or bite your nails, or the cover is very flush, a trim removal tool - plastic one, of course - can do the trick!
