06 vrs, 2 months and 3500 miles in

Featured Replies

I'm going to approach the dealers with a view to getting my car looked at under warranty. The issues are:-

1. Stutter (Bloody annoying, borderline dangerous in traffic)

2. Creaky dash (Bloody annoying)

3. Grinding rear brakes at times (Bloody disconcerting)

4. Wrinkled rear seat covering (Bloody dealer said they'd drop out, they haven't)

5. Vibration in the gear lever at idle (Not pleasant)

6. Slightly lumpy idle at times (Again, disconcerting)

7. A problem which occurred on the continent, where the starter didn't engage properly once, and made a nasty grinding noise, a CEL light came on with the glowplugs light as well. The car started and ran no trouble at all at the second attempt. As the temp was in the high 30's I left it with a view to coming back and geting it sorted in the UK, but the lights went out after a couple of days. I'm sure it was highlighting the fact that the starter didn't fully engage, and it hasn't recurred.

(I'm not too bothered about this as it seems to have been a one off)

Now then chaps, what I'm looking for from you is an honest opinion of what I can expect when I take the car to the dealers, and a comeback for their (seemingly inevitable) excuses.

Cheers

Nick

I would suggest a quick scan with VAG-COM before you go, just to check on the CEL you had. Forwarned is forarmed as they say.

You have a Private Message.

I took mine to 2 different Skoda dealers to have 3 of the 7 things you've listed looked at........ I still had the same problems/issues when I got rid of the car in April.

2. Creaky dash (Dont have that thank god)

3. Grinding rear brakes at times (A comman fault nothing they can do)

4. Wrinkled rear seat covering (iam about to go compain about mine fraying)

5. Vibration in the gear lever at idle (no fault found)

6. Slightly lumpy idle at times (different air temputures can cause this somethings sir )

Oh do you have the leaking rear doors??

Thats my story in 6.5k with my furby, Its about to go in for the rear doors leaking, the 1st fix didnt work the next one takes up to 5hours.

I think youll end you with 50% of your problems fixed as thats how ive found when i go in with a big list, 50% of the problems dont get answered or you feel they looked and thought nothing there.

For the benefit for some others users, here's some of the problems and fixes I've had with my '05 vRS with 7K on the clock:

Creaking Dash- Fixed, steering rack replaced under warranty.

Gear Level Rattle- Fixed, engine mount reseated and retightened. My car already has the revised gear linkages.

Grinding rear brakes- Fixed, handbrake mod done. No change, discs resurfaced, no change. Refused to accept that the nosie was acceptable. Skoda replaced discs & pads under warranty. Apparently the '06 models have revised discs and pads. Skoda UK told my dealer the car needs to be driven spiritedly to prevent the noise returning.

Intermittant knocking noise from front near side- Fixed- Dealer just informed of modification by SUK (how appropriate). Apply 2mm of grease between mounting point of the gearbox N/S mount.

I've had my vRS for just over two months, had 16 'issues' with it, been to the dealer 5 times for work (plus all the test drives, reporting of faults, etc) and has been off the road about 19 days. Now 2 months and a bit on all the issues *appear* to be resolved.

Not impressed with the mechanics of the vehicle to be quite honest. I didn't expect the vehicle to require so many fixes in it's first year. Begs the question what is it going to be like when it's 3 years old????

Great car to drive though! Mind you so is an Alfa, wonder if I would have spent as much time at an Alfa dealer?

You can buy a cheap cable from ebay that will allow you to use the demo version of the software for around £15.

You could try and find a member locally who can help - check out a thread called vag-com map.
