Octavia VRS mk3 water in passenger footwell.

Featured Replies

Hello,

I seem to be getting a water leak somewhere in the passenger footwell up front, car is right hand drive.

I have checked sunroof drain holes as well as under the windshield none of them are blocked

As you can see in the picture only the marked area seems to be getting wet and im at my wits end with this. Did anyone encounter similar issue?

Could be the heater plenum chamber drain hose is blocked?

are there any schematics where i would look for it or should i go to garage?

Is it definitely water and not coolant?

I have red coolant in the car as i dried that area with white tissue paper i didnt see it being pink-ish i also smelled it, but couldnt detect anything that way.

I have tested sunroof again by pouring quite a lot of water into the drainage hole up top, nothing leaked into the cabin and water escaped near the wheel like it’s supposed to.

Is it soaking up from under the carpet (is the sound deadening wet?) or dripping down on top of it?

Has the windscreen been replaced?

Are your door drains all clear, running free?

I think I'd be checking the door seals, looking for signs of water runs, then looking under the dash and behind the glove box for similar signs if it were me.  Also maybe lay upside down in the footwell while someone runs a hose over it.

Im actually not sure it could be from the top now that i think about it, but i checked roof liner and didnt find any wet spots. ATM i have no way of checking if under carpet is wet.

Not sure about the windscreen i bought the car used a year ago from a dealer.

Im gonna have to have a look behind glove box on the weekend (mon-fri work 😞 )

Regarding the hose i think i will go to the car wash and monitor the footwell i got no access anywhere.

Three areas to check:

1) Sounds like you have check the sunroof drains. The only possible thing I can think of is that there is possible split in the drain.

2) Coolant - if you are using a lot of coolant then you will need to check the heater matrix as it might of sprung a leak and is leaking internally. Looking where the leak is, this looks most likely.

3) Windscreen is not properly sealed. Have a hosepipe spray and check the edge of the screen inside with a torch.
