SOS error - is this normal?

Featured Replies

Morning, I'm sure we've all had the annoying SOS error from time to time.

What I want to know is if your nav and Android Auto connection also stops working when the SOS error happens?

It seems like my problem is linked to GPS as when i get the SOS message, the nav doesn't work, or AA, and the little location thing in the MFD just shows an arrow without the compass direction.

Wondering if I have a bad GPS aerial connection or something as when it's cold it seems to occur more often.

edit- also it never occurs during a drive, only when starting the car.  If it works when I drive off, it will stay working all day.

My Kamiq comes up with the message occasionally. The Sat Nav and Android Auto work normally. Mine had the SOS module replaced under warranty which reduced how often it happened but it still does it occasionally. Mine seems to be geographical as there are certain roads I travel on where it often comes up with the SOS message. I wonder if it's related to the quality or lack of mobile phone signal.

Thanks, i think you're that it's location sensitive.  I guess there are multiple faults that all show the same SOS message on the dash?

Good to know that your nav still works when you have the error, that leads me to believe the GPS antenna (or wiring) is at fault in my case.  Need to keep my code reader in the car and see if anything comes up when it occurs.

What version of firmware do you have?  The SOS function can be a bit....tempremental....I've found that an MIB firmware update usually settled it down.

Not sure what's relevant so I've grabbed it all (i think!)

I did have a couple of possibly relevant DTC stored, not sure if they're relevant but the time is correct on the top one

Thanks for replying:  You need to get that firmware up to 0480.  Please look at the various threads about getting hold of the new firmware.  Your maps are also out of date (need updating to 2025).
