To map or not to map!

Featured Replies

I'm a little undecided on how to proceed here.

After the first long trip with a lot of hills, I'm not really liking the laziness of the DSG from standstill through first into second. How can I explain it...... It almost feels like when you ride the clutch in a manual. Plus you really have to push on the accelerator relatively firmly to get it to move off at any sort of pace (except maybe on a completely flat surface) then all of a sudden it's like the gearbox wakes up then let's all hell break loose!

Also, when let's say in 4th/5th coming off a roundabout onto a dual carriageway and put your foot down to build up speed, again need to press rather firmly, then it drops one or two gears which seems completely unnecessary. I know when you really plant your foot that is meant too happen but it seems to happen to readily. So for example, foot down, nothing, a little firmer, nothing, a little firmer...... Warp speed 9!!

I have had a 2019 150bhp mk3 tdi a few years ago from new and this behaved similarly to a point but seems a lot smarter (as in the gearbox)

Would a remap of the gearbox sort this issue out because other than than it's seems a pretty solid car.

Any info would be helpful

I always flip from manual to automatic when coming into bends or roundabouts, that way you are always in the right gear without lag giving you better traction! I have never had a re map so couldn't help you with that!

I know what you mean if it's in auto all the time there is a lag when you put your foot down but like I say if you use the manual side of the box inconjunction with auto it solves the problem!

Thanks bud, I know we can do that but as I drive all over the place using this car for business I wanted to pop it in auto and forget about it.

Maybe someone can shed light on the difference after a map.

I've had similar thoughts myself but I've never really looked into a remap. The best thing I think would be to find someone who can do a custom map to your requirements.

Or use sport mode perhaps in auto ?
