About Sports Chassis Control

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm thinking about buying Skoda Scala. However, I'm wondering about a couple of things. In Finland we have trim level called Style, which is the highest level before Monte Carlo. With it I'm thinking of taking the additional Drive package, which includes the black front grille edges and black mirrors and also "Sports Chassis Control with drive mode select" (adaptive suspension). Mostly because of the black things, which can't be taken separately. I have a couple of questions about the Sports Chassis Control if someone knows more about it.

- When it is installed I have understood that the car's ground clearance is 1,5 cm lower than basic Scala. 134 mm compared to 149 mm basic. Just to make sure I assume the ground clearance is always the same and does not depend on selected driving mode?

- I'm wondering how much this lower ground clearance affects normal everyday driving compared to basic Scala? For example high speed bumps, steep elevations, snow and so on. Do you have to think about them. My current Seat Leon has about the same ground clearance than basic Scala.
- Also I would like to know does the car feel already stiffer in normal mode compared to basic Scala suspension or is it only stiffer when you switch to sport mode? If it is stiffer in normal mode than the basic suspension does anyone have any comparison by how much?

Unfortunately there's not any example car available with this so I can't test it.

It does not stiffen normal suspension. It does stiffen and Lower in sport mode. On my early Scala there are modes for normal, eco, sport and individual. Mine is a 1.5 petrol dsg. And if you select individual mode you can choose whether on not to have sport suspension on. In sport mode it is on by default. In eco and normal sport suspension is off.

In my experience sport mode noticeably improves handling but at the expense of comfort.

Thanks for your answer. Good to hear from somebody who has the system. So do you mean when you select sport mode it actually sets the car lower only then? So in normal mode the car is higher or goes up if you change from sport to normal? I asked this from the dealer, but got the information that it does not alter the ground clearence and that it would be the same height all the time but 1.5 cm lower than standard Scala without Sport Chassis Control. That's why was looking for more info how it actually works.

Yes there should be those four settings in newer models as well like in yours (normal, eco, sport and individual). Good to know that you can setup them more as you like.

As far as I understand, switching to sports mode only changes the dynamics of the shock absorbers, the car does not lower itself. The Monte Carlo sports chassis control suspension is lowered 10 mm on the Kamiq and 15 mm on the Scala.

Thanks for all the comments and information. So if it's only stiffer in sport mode then it will be ok. The problem still is that I'm not able to test run it before buying :) I will have to consider if I should take it.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have the Scala Lauch (Australia) which has the Adaptive Dampers / DCC.

Yes it is 1.5cm lower than standard. This is fixed. Despite some comments it definitely does not lower or heighten based on selection.

It does stiffens the suspension. It reduces the rate which shock absorber fluid is allowed to transfer. Meaning it will stiffen and reduce the time to body roll but does not change how much it will roll. If you continue lateral forces it will body roll the same as in normal mode. It just takes longer.

I use it sometimes. When on country roads with undulations or sine waves it makes the car much more stable and safe. It’s also good if you want to have fun around a twisty road but comfort suffers. But let’s be real it’s so sports car but has excellent grip.

It only offers two modes. Normal and sport.
