My 10 month old RS diesel DTUA engine likes a drop of oil. After 3500 miles it’s half way down the dipstick. Yes i know it’s well in spec by VW but that’s just arse covering. I have never had a TDI use a drop of oil in 10k until now.

 

Is this normal? The car has 25k on it. It has improved over time but still worrying. Will it improve or go downhill? My major concern is longterm damage to the DPF.

I thought my oil consumption was high to but my owners manual says:

Depending on the driving style and operating conditions, the engine may consume up to 0.5 l/ 1000 km Consumption may be higher over the first 5,000 km.

Regularly check the oil level.
