hello all,

Just bought a 2020 Octavia Vrs estate having had years of BMW ownership.

So far really impressed with the build quality, its not slow either!

Looking forward to being able to delve into the collective wisdom on here!

Welcome. High Peak as in out Hayfield/Kinder direction?

Yep!

If you have any suggestions for a decent mechanic/garage in the area who knows skoda I’d be grateful!

I'm not familiar with the area on that basis (SW London myself)- just did a bunch of road cycling up there a couple of years ago so have fond memories of the area - Marple, Disley, Glossop, Hayfield, Whaley Bridge, Macclesfield, Buxton, Leek - stunning scenery although its all up and down!

Having a mooch about the internet, there's CLP Automotive over in Sheffield which has a good reputation from a chap in the Super section; but there are also a couple of well known names in Stockport - VW-World and VAGManchester/Progressive Parts. They're both well established for sure.

Theres no “along” in the peak, its up or down!

We ride on the muddy side of the fence..we are in New Mills so very easy access to Hayfield, Edale and the like

Appreciate the garage advice (despite me assuming you were local!!) i shall have a hunt around here and the internet for someone!!

Ha. I knew that. Was based in Marple so the rides usually ended with New Mills and back via Hague Bar.

Noses filled with the scent of the Swizzels factory! I popped into Sett Valley Cycles a couple of times too.

Best of luck with the search for places. Def worth a bit of a trip if it means you find a place that works.

Garage choices are generally a google map search, followed by a visit to FB groups/forums to see what people have said. That's how I've just found my next VAG garage.

I've heard good things about CLP - best thing to do is when you need some work done, give a few places a ring and compare their answers. I was dead keen on one place (and it had good reviews/feedback) until the guy on the phone tried to argue with me that there was no haled pump gauze to clean out on the VAQ diff. Shame, they did some nice hoodies!

Ha I was thinking of suggesting the haldex test - but I think OP’s car is FWD.

It’s definitely a good sign if someone who knows and wants to do the right thing. Ironically some dealer techs must be aware but won’t do it as it’s work they can’t charge for I guess?
