Phone is paired but Contacts are unavailable

Featured Replies

My Kodiaq replacement was picked up last week and the technology in my new Karoq is proving just as difficult in the early weeks. My 5 year old Huawei phone which I was able to pair to the Kodiaq and used very successfully refused to work in the Karoq so a new phone was purchased. My new Pixel 8a paired up to the Karoq without any difficulty but I'm not able to access the phones Contacts to make a call within the car. Has anyone else had a similar problem? How was it resolved or has anyone got a more technologically minded brain than mine that might be able to shed some light on the problem.

Thanks

As a first step, check Bluetooth permissions:

Go to your Pixel 8a's Settings > Connected devices > Bluetooth.

Select your Karoq from the list of paired devices.

Make sure "Share contacts and call history" is enabled.

On the 8a, something above may have a slightly different name but it should be clear enough what setting you want.

If you are using CarPlay or equivalent then the built in phone functionality does not “operate” the phone - it has to be done through CarPlay.

Phones can be paired in one of two ways WiFi of Bluetooth. I found pairing via WiFi meant that internet access used the built in SIM and nog my phones SIM. So I changed to Bluetooth pairing. I have an IPhone and use CarPlay so contacts etc are accessed via the App.

He can't possibly be using CarPlay with his Pixel phone and it seems from his post that he has not got as far as trying Android Auto. He doesn't need to. His phone can indeed be operated from the Karoq's infotainment screen, whether one uses Android Auto or not.

He needs to start by getting Bluetooth working in full and importing his contacts from phone to car. Wi-fi and/or Android Auto had better wait till those first steps have been taken.

Thanks very much I persevered and tried again. I had looked to see if the phone was set to share contacts but hadn't previously selected the specific vehicle that it was linked to. Clicked on the tab and "hey presto" I am now able to make calls connected by the "very useful" Laura! Thanks very much again.
