faulty power steering

Featured Replies

changed steering rack on a 06 blt fabia with a reconditioned oem one as the old one popped.

bleed the rack a few times with and without the cap on the power steering pump res. feels heavy at first then catch's up with it self, feels like there's a notch in it . same as when being driven. cleared all codes etc. no lights on the dash. battery a year old. was maybe driven 2 miles max with little to none fluid it in when the old rack did pop.then removed the fuse from top of battery when driving to the garage. any ideas ? also never took the dogbone bolt out that sit under the rack as i’ve seen that happen too many times so it’s not that. really stuck now.

I don't know how did you bleed, but I have changed the servo pump and needed a bleeding as well.
Try filling up the res and then with ignition ON, but motor not running! steer from full left to full right, and repeat 3 times. Then check the pump res, to see fluid level.... and fill up if needed.
I could imagine that a VCDS reset could help to set default sensor values for the new rack.
