Rear foglamp

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just got my 2021 Kamiq back from MOT with advisory on rear offside fog lamp being dull and water ingression . I can find the item easily enough online but how do I get the old one off . Looked about but not obvious how it fits , don't want to dismantle the whole car inside . Any pointers to how to get it on/off please ( a video would be ace) .

On another topic I've been advised when replacing rear discs and pads to not use Skodas own as they are poor quality , any truth in this ? Thanks for replies .

Hi Brian, I can’t help you with how to get the light off but you might want to check out how water is getting in. Some time back I had to get the spare wheel out and I found the well half full of water. I traced the source of the water to the plastic shroud next to the light - water was running down the scuttle and underneath the shroud. Strangely enough the other side was fine. As a temporary measure I just put duct tape over it, meaning to point it out at the next service and get it fixed under warranty, but I didn’t really want the car in the garage for a day while they pulled it apart so I just left it and it’s fine.

Re the rear discs, yes there are lots of comments on various forums about them being made of cheese. Mine have done 16k miles and are badly scored. When I take it in for MOT in June I’ll see if they’re bad enough to fail and get them replaced under warranty, though I understand Skoda may say it’s fair wear and tear, so may have a fight on my hands.

Follow this link below re the light, it's in German but has subtitles you don't really need them though.

As for brakes despite what others may say re brakes mine were bad and were replaced after 19k miles, 3 years old. Other cars I've owned still had the original rear brakes on at 7 years old and probably 50k miles.

I replaced the fronts myself with Brembo discs+ pads.

I have had a number of Skodas - most of them suffered from terrible rear disc quality from new. One set even chose to delaminate substantial flakes as I drove down the road and heard them hitting the rear wheel liner.

Almost any proper brand will do. Brembo, Mintex, Pagid, TRW - each have their fans. Do not under any circumstances get them from a Skoda dealer. Last set I did cost me £42 and less than an hour of my time.
