Declined a pre-MOT

Featured Replies

Dropped my car off for a pre -mot inspection , 5 mins later got a phone call telling me they only do a full mot, asked could they do the full mot inspection without logging it , just a straight no.

Seemed a bit odd and can't for the life of me understand why it'd be an issue.

Reason I want a pre-mot is it's a private hire vehicle and like to make sure its sound before it goes in for its 6 monthly inspection

I'd try a local authority MoT test station or is that not a possibility seeing as you're already a Private Hire?

AIUI if you fail a "pre-MOT" the car classifies as unroadworthy just like if you failed an annual MOT.

That is ok. If a TAXI / Private hire / public service vehicle it should be off the road untill road worthy again. Plenty have regular inspections by mechanics outwith statuary ones.

I understand places / MOT Testers not doing Pre-Mots anymore.

The MOT is not a good earner of money as far as the hourly rate.

If someone who;s car is their working vehicle wants an inspection to MOT Examination standard maybe pay the mechanic the rate they charge per 45 minutes of their EARNING time or even an hours rate not what a MOT can be had for.
