Corroded Rear Bulb Holders

Featured Replies

Hi.

I own a 2019 VRS estate. Recently i got intermittent issues with rear parking light, then brake light, reversing light and indicator. All rear left

Its been to Skoda, and they have said its corroded bulb holder, and needs potential wire repair for £191, if that does not work they will keep for another day and will be whole new rear light unit for £600!!!!

Anyway, im thinking just buy a unit myself and fit and avoid even taking it to skoda for the potential repair? Wondering if anyone has any experience, does it just plug n play…?

Kind regards

Louis

It sounds like you have a bulb setup rear cluster as opposed to LEDs. It easy to change out. Just a case of finding a good replacement part (its not 600ukp btw) and swapping out the rear cluster.

Ive rewatched the video skoda did me. The mechanic has said

“The bulb holder has built up corrosion, the plug itself has seized to the bulb holder within unit, it requires new bulb holder and new harness to that bulb holder, its too bad and seized the plug shut”

Skoda parts have confirmed its this one i need. LED. Although they’ve asked if i need holder and seals as well, so unsure. Just really dont want to pay skodas rip off prices. 😔

In the Mk3.5 vRS the fronts are full LED, but at the back only the brake lights are LED. Everything else, for some stupid reason, is bulb.

Only place I use for parts - https://www.skoda-parts.com/online-store.html

Thank you, yeah been speaking to them today, and they have been really helpful. just unsure if its everything i need for the job. The mechanic at skoda said

I'm not sure if its the main plug/loom that feeds out of the car, that the whole unit plugs into, or a smaller plug thats internal in the whole unit if that makes sense. Hence why im hoping i can just buy new unit and fit, but no clue what im doing really, may take it off and look or just bite the bullet and let Skoda do it.

I may try and find a video, or try taking it off to look. 👌

Have you trawled the workshop manual and YouTube? Never mind the wiring side of things, but knowing VAG I'd be suprised if the holder is a part you can change, or if it's a moulded part of the light?

You wouldn't catch me fiddling around with the wiring on my car - I don't trust it not to do another dying battery episode, shi* itself and throw a gazillion codes.
