Fabia 1.2 HTP Seized Idler Pully

Featured Replies

 Last year brought a new Fabia 1.2 HTP, no problems till this week started getting intermittant 'screeching noise' from the belt pully area so decided to book an appointment on return home to local Skoda garage where I got the car from. About 3 miles from home the temp gauage shot up and the temp warning light came on. Managed to stop quickly and found the belt had come off altogether, so I called the AA via Skoda assist.

The AA man said the Idler pully bearing had seized up and the bearings damaged due to lack of grease (apparently the grease in the bearing had dried up) but he managed to repack the bearing with some grease as a temporary measure to get the car running again, he also suggested the car go straight to the garage.

Has anyone had a problem with the idler pully bearing on their car or is it mine just had a bad bearing ?

Im a bit disgusted that this should happen as the car is only a year old and something not expected from 'quality' German engineering, will tell the dealer what I think when I get the car in tomorrow :finger: :thumbdwn:

I can't recall a similar problem being posted here. At least you will get it fixed under warranty.

Mines not missed a beat in 19k even after crashing... now and then your going to get one dodgy component... you were just unlucky enough to have tat bit. Least you have warranty so will all be sorted

This is now been fixed, the dealer said they have never encountered this problem before and are going to send a report back to Skoda. Could have been a dodgy bearing or may have been put on too tight, will keep an watch on it just in case the problem returns.

A new one on me that one.

once had a saab (bag of poo) 93 that did the same. Heard a bit of a screeching but didn't think much of it. The problem came when I stopped at some traffic lights the bearing siezed completely and because the belt was going around it the friction caused loads of smoke and melted both the belt and pulley. I bailed our mildred and kids out of the car and hoped the bang of cr4p would self combust but it didn't. Can't remember the exact number but I think the belt had to go around 9 pullies when we fitted a new one
