3.6 FSI reliability and to-do things for achieving high mileage

Featured Replies

Owner of 2009 VR6 3.6 FSI Superb. Current mileage is 214 000 km.

Only few issues have been occurring during this mileage:

Happened few times during past year with cold engine: very notable gasoline smell and the engine has run on idle as "rich" - also banging in the exhaust.

Hasn´t been occurring in a while - what could cause this?

Also thinking about timing chain replacement - it is still original. No hear of slight rattling or other noises. I had a visit on my friends garage and we measured cam timing values on Delphi software: required vs measured. +/- 0,5 degrees has been occurring in idle sometimes and as well on higher revolutins. Is this something that would need attention?

In general - what would be the optimal mileage to replace the timing chain if I want to drive as far as I can with this magnificent car? I know, in some cases people have been driving over 500 000 km with these engines.

All advices and tips regarding major problematics and other noteable things related to these engines are welcome.

Greetings from Finland
