Octavia MK2 Timing belt change advice

Featured Replies

Hi I have a 2011 Octavia 1.6 TDI and I've had mixed opinions on when I should next have the cam belt changed. It was last changed at 81800 miles in 09/20 (The water pump & auxiliary belt were also changed) The car is currently on 152,500

If anyone can offer any advice on the above it would be appreciated.

Thanks

It's whichever comes first of 60,000 miles or four years, I think, so as yours is getting on for five years I'd probably get it done.

Personally I would change it but I am a bit paranoid re timing belts. The timing belt interval has changed according to skoda etc. They now say from memory 180000 or 15years which I reckon is far too long but in your case it will depend on what make of belt was used when it was changed at 81200. If it was OEM vw/skoda /gates it should be ok but if it was a cheaper make I wouldn't risk it.

And that's exactly what you'll get here too. 😁

I'd leave it another few years if it was mine.

15 years?! That's mad. Are they backdating that to cars that are that old?

Anyway mine is 3 years and 6 months old now and has done about 40,000 miles (this is a 1.9 TDI) but I only paid about £280 for the whole job, parts and labour, so I'm guessing this was not a top level belt. I've been thinking about getting it changed soon as I've got a long drive to Poland and back in July and it'd be just typical...
