Karoq bonnet struts fitted.

Featured Replies

I have no nuts to bolt on, just 4 bolts with ball ends, 2 attached to the ribbon and 4 washers. I’ve used the original nut from the bonnet to attach the bracket, but I’m still short 2 nuts.

a very silly thing to post on the Internet :-)

I will sort out my nuts in the morning and post a photo...

I would contact the supplier. Though it might be easier just to pick up a couple of nuts from an local garage?

This is what I got.

Two pistons, four bolts with ball ends, two nuts on the "ribbon" and two normal nuts.

The black extension mounts use the bolt already on the bonnet. Does anyone have anything different?

I wish I had those two nuts, Yours looks like the complete set.

As I said before, contact the seller, but I suspect your fastest solution is to go to a local (old-fashioned) garage or a scrapyard, and they will probably give you a couple of nuts.

What size nuts are they? My father I. Law will probably have some floating around I could grab.

13mm.

Put one of the studs in your pocket when you go out for some, and ideally get nylocks.

Put a washer each side of the supplied bracket because the holes are oversize.

I was going to say use thread-lock on the all the nuts

Also, a good tip about the washers. That is why there are 4 supplied, I assume or did you mean use additional washers?

We’re within a whisker of catastrophic overthought.

Do what you think is best to stop it all falling off 👍

Possibly, but I used to work on aircraft... SO you do always tend to think like that.

My father in law came to the rescue with some nylock bolts. Finally managed to fit them.

I noticed the brackets that bolted to the bonnet were quite sharp, so I added some adhesive felt to the back of them before I bolted them on.

sounds like a good idea. Where did you get the adhesive felt?

I had some lying around from when we had some hard flooring done, its for the bottom of chairs/tables etc, only cut a small square for near the edge.

Thanks I know the stuff that you mean, we used it on one of our sofas.

Fitted them, but it is s low open, with help, and whilst it holds the bonnet open you can't use the original stay.

BTW B&Q do a pack of 8 pads 35 x 24 that are exactly the right size for the end of the extension mounts.

I assumed everyone used thread lock as they are not nylock nuts.

Also mounted them the same way up as @10tenmen as it gives more clearance around the main bonnet mount at the bottom.

Though I am wondering if they might line up better the other way around, like @Hdsn555 then they might have a more springy open.

Mine opens well once you give it it a minor push, but it doesn't really feel much different to the OEM ones that were on my Superb. In terms of the original stay, its open slightly less than that, but no real access issues with it like that.

I raised the missing bolts issue to Ali Express and they processed a refund for the full amount. 😆

They are good like that. You probably ended up with better quality nuts.

Been following this thread and thought I need them.

But after waiting a fortnight them 10mins fitting, adjusting the bonnet forward to allow the brackets to fit , I find I still have to lift the bonnet, or is that just wishful thinking that they would actually lift the bonnet on there own with no lifting from me ?

Even with OEM struts I’ve not known it actually lift the bonnet after unlatching, there has always been a need to gently lift, it just meant it’s held in place by the struts rather than latching up the stay.

Thanks for that ,

I was possibly expecting too much but its easier without the bonnet stay to latch/unlatch and now it doesn't get in the way when doing things under the bonnet.

That is what I also found but it is much easier to lift the bonnet.

It is also easier to close (without dropping it) .

I primarily got them because my wife could not open the bonnet without.
