The rear near side shock hanger has rusted away and broken off on my 2010 fabia estate.

I'll repair as a temp measure but as I'll be replacing the whole subframe/axle I was considering getting the disc brake rather than drum brake axle, I can then put new hubs, calipers/brackets, discs, brake line and handbrake cable in.

How do you propose repairing that as a temp measure? You can't weld rust.
What size engine do you have and are you looking for advice on which calipers/ disks etc you need?

By plating it. It'll not be pretty but as it will only have to last a few weeks until I get all the bits it will be fine. Especially as it will only be used a few times for short journeys.

Do you have any input about the actual topic or just about my fabricating skills?

No idea what your fab level is so I can't comment.

This was my input

All people had to go on was what reads as a statement rather than someone looking for advice.
If you don't need any advice or aren't asking questions then crack on. Hope it works out.

There are more threads than just these on converting to Discs with Mk2, be that hatch or estate.

Maybe look in the 'Guide Section'.

Just a case of getting the parts then.

I've done the temp repair.

It's not pretty but only does a few gentle miles a week at the moment getting my son to and from work.

Drives fine but I'm now not on the island so will be fittingIMG-20250610-WA0001.jpgIMG-20250610-WA0000.jpgIMG-20250610-WA0000.jpg new subframe as soon as I'm back home from the mainland.

Still not decided whether to do the conversion.
